How To Get Started With WordPress

To get started working with WordPress, you might need to get more information about how everything is working. WordPress is PHP and MySQL based web application for creating blogs or simple websites in easy way.

Once WordPress is installed, it will be working with default theme which will be visible in the front page. Also, there won't be any content, just default text which shows that website was installed correctly. To start managing all things in your website, you will need to access administration panel. This panel can be reached by putting login URL in the browser. It should look like in the following form: http://www.YourDomain.com/wp-admin

The following form will appear in order to login to WordPress dashboard.

Put in your username, password and click "Log In" button. If you don't remember your password, you may reset it by clicking "Lost your password?".

If login details will be correct, you will be transferred to WordPress dashboard. There you will be able to access all management parts to customize and manage your blog. It is usefull as you may see how much content is created, recent comments, news related to WordPress and more.

Main menu is located in the left side of the window.

From this menu various locations can be accessed. For example, by clicking on "Home" you will be transferred to the same home page. But by clicking "Updates", you will get a list of updates that is available. Here is also more buttons that can be used to navigate through WordPress administration area:

Posts - access posts, add new posts, categories, tags. There you can manage your posts by editing them, deleting or viewing.

Media - this is a place where all media files can be uploaded. You can upload images, video files in various formats. After they are uploaded, they can be used in the posts.

Links - in this menu area, you can manage all links that you see in your WordPress website. By default there will be some links related to WordPress documentation, plugins, themes, support forum, etc. But you can also add your own links that can be used in the website.

Pages - this is a good place if you want to create more pages for your website. By creating more pages, you can add different posts to them.

Comments - in this place you will see comments that was inserted in your posts. It's a goog feature, since you can check what comments is being added to your website and accept them before they will be visible. If you don't want to publish certain comment, simply click "Spam" or "Trash".

Appearance - if you need to manage your website design, this is the right place to do it. There you will be able to install and manage particular themes right in the administration panel. Themes can be installed by searching for your favorite theme by using various keywords of filters.

Plugins - there you may install, activate, edit, update every plugin you want to use with WordPress website.

Users - add new users, edit existing users details.

Tools - there you will find tools that can be used with your website. By default, there will be installed such tools "Press This" and "Categories and Tags Converter". You will also be able to import or export tools.

Settings - a place for editing main settings for your website. There you will be able to manage such settings as website title, writing, reading settings and much more.

Now you should be able to start working with your website which will be powered by WordPress.
